Who We Are..
Lisa Bowstead (Wall Street Systems Analyst) and Bob
Ipcar (Director of Photography for film and video) have
combined their talents to create SmallTown Brooklyn, the
first-ever virtual walk-through neighborhood.
Lisa and Bob are committed to their community, each having
dabbled in political activism and community service as
far back as the late 60's. In 1998, when a vengeful NYC
mayor served eviction notices to the tenant organizations
at 250 Baltic Street - including the family drop-in center,
Families First - Lisa and Bob joined forces to transform
the center's web site into a comprehensive political
action resource.
The community was victorious, and the idea for SmallTown
Brooklyn was born!
The
"Anti-Website"...
SmallTown Brooklyn is a community resource with a difference.
We believe that finding information on-line shouldn't
have to be either time-consuming or a matter of luck.
No more wading through mires of pretty graphics and fancy
features, only to discover useless or outdated information!
We're like your neighbor next door, with advice over
the backyard fence.
It's
important to us that we provide a free space for our
community organizations. Maybe
we're crazy to also list every store and service on our
scrollable streets for free, but providing comprehensive
information that's easily available to everyone is what
SmallTown Brooklyn is all about.
We
Love Brooklyn...
We
live in Brooklyn, we shop and play here, and we think
it's a great place to raise our kids. SmallTown Brooklyn
is a product of pure, old-fashioned hard work and common
sense, brought to you by way of a neighborly, "I can
find out" attitude.
SmallTown
Brooklyn is our contribution to our community.
Enjoy!
